The green trend...not so green?

Well we all know the green trend is in full swing now, or is it? The new fluorescent light bulbs use a lot less energy then traditional incandescent and they lost a lot longer. Fluorescent light bulbs weren't designed to be turned off and on a lot. If you are constantly turning your lights off and on they will burn out 10x faster. Yeah that's right, ten times faster! Not only do they not last long, but they contain the harmful metal mercury. The US government requires that you take used florescent to a certified recycling center. Lets get real now, do you really think people are going to do that? Mercury is being dumped into our environment at an alarming rate and these sure aren't helping.

Many environmentalist politicians disgust me. For example, Nancy Pelosi flies to and from D.C. and California twice a week on a commercial jet. Each flight produces more carbon than your whole carbon footprint for a year! Originally, she was on a smaller plain but she switched to a commercial jet because the small plain had to refuel half way through. It's amazing that she calls herself an environmentalist.

Now with that said, the world is getting greener but not as quickly as I would hope. Wind energy has been booming lately; The world's global wind capacity has been going up by 25% or year for several years now. The government has been encouraging people to buy renewable energy sources for their back yard by paying for a third or more of the system! All states now have a renewable energy content. In my home state, Texas, 10% of the states energy must be renewable.
